The Williamson diamond mine, discovered in 1940 by Canadian geologist Dr. John Williamson, is one of Africa’s most storied and historic diamond mines. Widely regarded as the first major diamond mine outside South Africa, it is located in the Shinyanga Region of northern Tanzania.

Since 2025, the mine has been owned by Pink Diamonds, a group company of the Taifa Group — a leading technical mining services provider — in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Tanzania.

Williamson is an open-pit operation, renowned for producing rare and exceptional pink diamonds alongside a wide range of high-quality stones. Among its most famous discoveries is the legendary Williamson Pink Diamond, a 54.5-carat flawless pink stone that was presented to Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) as a wedding gift and subsequently set in a brooch that remains part of the Royal Collection.

Today, the mine produces approximately 50,000 carats per cycle, with 8 production cycles scheduled each year.
